The Dixie Chicks have announced a North American tour.
The country trio’s DCX MMXVI World Tour kicks off in America on June 1, 2016, in Cincinnati, Ohio. They’ll be playing dates throughout the U.S. and Canada with a stop in Chicago on June 5th; a complete list of stops is below.
They had been teasing a big announcement leading up to the details of the tour, including Natalie Maines making an announcement on her personal Twitter account that the Chicks “will tour the states again.”
Previously, the group had said that they weren’t sure if they’d be welcome to perform on American soil, given the response after comments made about then-President George W. Bush. In March of 2003, as the U.S. was preparing to invade Iraq, Maines commented, during a concert in London, “Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.” The fallout from the country music community was swift and severe, with radio stations banning the Chicks’ music and several artists publicly speaking out against them.
