60 Seconds, 20 Push Ups: Kristin’s Fitness Diary

I even unintentionally wore the same shirt!

A lot of you know that I’m trying really hard to slim down, and with a kickstart with LifePlus, I’ve already dropped around 15lbs!

Now comes the work…

I started the RiverPlex Reset this week. It’s 24 group personal training sessions, 12 nutrition coaching sessions, and a lot of support from professionals and peers!

We started on Saturday with weigh ins, meeting our team (I am actually floating between all three teams, so the whole group is MY team!), before pictures, and a surprise first workout!

BOY I am out of shape.

We were to stand in lines, and the first person was to jog to the other end of the gym, get the weight-sled-thing, push it down and back, grab kettle bells and walk down and back, and then slam a medicine ball on the ground 10 times, then jog back and tap the hand of the next person in line to do it all again. The ladies in front of me were worried. They hadn’t worked out in quite some time and thought they wouldn’t be able to do it very well. So when they pushed the sled like it was practically weightless, I thought it must be okay! And then it gets to me, and it took everything I had just to get it down and back!

So that’s a nice snapshot to start my training with!

The first day of our first week, we were getting our base fitness levels. We started with push ups which I am SO BAD AT! And not the kind of bad at where you say that and then you kill like 50 of them, no I am just WEAK in the shoulders and upper arms! We had 60 seconds to pop out as many as we could, and, even though it’s not a competition amongst the group, I was still the one with the least at 20, and that was pushing myself to the limit!

(Actual footage of me… jk, but imagine my two-handed pushup looks very similar to this)

Then came the squat challenge, where I winced at the thought, but knocked out 52 in a minute, so I felt a little better about the fitness testing after that.

And then our coach sent us upstairs to run the track- four laps for half a mile. And I pushed it! I came out early in the group as the front runner, but I know very well about myself that I start off races fast and sloooooow down. I came in a pretty close second though, at 5 minutes, 2 seconds, which is incredible as a typical mile for me is usually over 12 minutes!

These are all numbers we’re all hoping to beat at the end of our 12 week program! I’ll let you know how I do!

Shoutout to the other Reseters. After the first two-hour meeting, not only was I feeling determined and encouraged, but I had made friends! I love that we’ve all come together from our own backgrounds and our own stories to combat the same goal, and everyone is so encouraging of everyone else! When a person slows down and looks like they want to give up, the rest of the group claps and cheers them on!

So happy I decided to do the Riverplex Reset. Although, maybe let me get through a couple more weeks before I say that for good…
