Top Ten Breakfast Cereals

Frosted Flakes

People have serious commitments to their favorite cereal. And that was made very clear in a survey recently done by Mr. Breakfast.com (which I had never heard of until I saw this survey….unique browsing if you are stuff with a dull day at work). But 570,000 people took the time to vote on their cereal favs, four of which were discontinued by 1980, so sorry, no cereal for you. Here’s how the top 10 rolled out:

1. Quisp. It was discontinued in the late ’70s, but brought back in 2012.
2. Frosted Flakes.
3. Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
4. Honey Nut Cheerios.
5. Cap’n Crunch.
6. Wheaties.
7. Concentrate. It was made of little nuggets marketed as being “concentrated nutrients” . . . and it was discontinued in the late 1970s.
8. Rice Krinkles. There were like sugary Rice Krispies, but they were discontinued in the ’70s too.
9. Puffa Puffa Rice. There were sorta like Rice Krispies covered in honey or brown sugar . . . also discontinued in the 1970s.
10. Wheat Chex.

Frosted Flakes will always hold a special place in my heart, even though I had to pour the flakes in the milk a quarter cup at a time to avoid the soggies. Cap’n Crunch? Loved it! But didn’t it rip up the top of everyone’s mouth? Didn’t matter. Honey Nut Cheerios is also solid. But sadly my cereal passion, Honey Bunches of Oats, was no where to be found.

Fortunately it’s just about time for Count Chocula, Franken Berry and Boo Berry to make their seasonal appearance so we have those boxes of crunchy happiness to look forward to!
