I was reading a story and it was discussing how everything we believe about the 4th of July is inaccurate! What? It was in the Washington Post. Apparently the declaration was actually signed on July 2nd. And if we think that Thomas Jefferson alone wrote the Declaration of Independence, or the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia was made to ring to announce independence, or that Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag at the request of George Washington, we are wrong, wrong and wrong! Suddenly I feel like I don’t know our history at all! I hate to be alone in this so check out the whole story for yourself here. Of course none of this changes my mind about celebrating on the 4th. 🙂 Happy Independence Day!
