Last night, Jim, Kristin, and our Promotions guru, Marris, went out to Wildlife Prairie Park for the Fight to the Finish 2016 Media Challenge, which is basically just a fancy way of saying they hadn’t tested the course, yet, for Saturday’s race, and they wanted to sacrifice a bunch of radio people. KIDDING! Well, kind of. We were the dry-run for the course. We were in teams of 3 and we had to each run a mile of the race.
As you can tell, Marris was not happy he had to swim, as he doesn’t actually know HOW to swim. Jim was just convinced all day that he was going to die.
Kristin took the first leg- we took off running along a fence line… and promptly got lost (don’t worry. The feedback we gave was MORE SIGNAGE). We kind of hobbled around in circles until we finally found a person who pointed us in one direction… which was wrong. So we had to come BACK and go around and into the woods. Up and down some kind of slick muddy hills (take it easy on this part). When you think that surely you should be exiting the woods about now, you continue up and down, round and round. There’s a part where you kind of zig zag up a hill, and THAT is where you are close to the exit.
Jim took the second leg of it, which also had a little woods running. Just assume you’ll be in the woods around uneven terrain a lot.
Then our Promotions guy, Marris, was last. As noted in the video above, he can’t swim. He had a life jacket, but once he ran around his section, the end of it was a very large water slide that shoots you right down in some deep water. Give him the largest effort award, though, because the boy kept kicking and kicking (and wasn’t really going anywhere)… he eventually had to be rescued by one of the volunteers who had been a lifeguard before. He was a good sport about it, though, which is why we are able to joke about it.
If you would like to Fight to the Finish to benefit the kids of the Children’s Hospital of Illinois, registration is still open! It’s a FUN way to spend your Saturday, and you’re helping kids! Speaking of kids, there’s a smaller children’s course, too, so they can get muddy for a cause, too! If running isn’t your thing, but you still want to help the Children’s Hospital of Illinois, come out, cheer on the runners, and be a Spirit runner! You’ll still get the swag bag and tshirt, but won’t have to take a long, muddy shower afterwards!
If all that’s not enough to convince you, maybe you will after you see the SWEET finishers medal!
