The death of Glenn Frey was felt pretty hard in the world of country music. The Eagles have influenced an entire generation of performers, and you could make an argument that their sound is as much country as rock.
If you recall, the Eagles were nominated for CMA Vocal Group of the Year four different times: In 1976 and 1977, and again in 2008 and 2009. They didn’t win any of those, but the tribute album “Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles” did win the CMA Album of the Year in 1994.
One of the songs on that album was the Travis Tritt cover of “Take It Easy”. Travis took the news pretty hard, writing “I’m so shocked and saddened that Glenn Frey has died. He was always nice to me. This is devastating.”
Brad Paisley tweeted, “So saddened and shocked by the loss. Thank you for the music that paved the way for so many others.”
Tim McGraw wrote, “His music was personally inspirational, his impact immeasurable, his legacy timeless.”
Finally, you may remember that the Eagles couldn’t receive their Kennedy Center Honor last fall due to Glenn’s poor health. That’s when Miranda Lambert stepped in to do a very moving version of “Desperado” in their absence.
RIP Glenn Frey and God speed. -Jim
