Chicago said #Ferrwell to the ferris wheel on Navy Pier yesterday. But no worries, a bigger and better one will be debuting for the summer of 2016.

I have personally rode on the Navy Pier ferris wheel many times, and it will be sad to see it completely dismantled by Halloween. The wheel took its last spin at about 8pm on September 27, 2015. Lets face it, the ferris wheel is what people automatically think about when you mention “Navy Pier”. That is why they are building a bigger and better one.

Here are some interesting facts from the Navy Pier website

  • The new wheel will stand 196 feet tall, 50 feet taller than the old wheel.
  • The new wheel will feature 42 climate controlled gondolas, holding up to 180 more passengers.
  • The gondolas will be colored “Navy Pier blue”.
  • The new wheel is the same as the Hong Kong Observation Wheel.

The new wheel sounds awesome, and I can’t wait to take a ride! -Jim
