It's April. Weather is warming up. Baseball is here and so is the prom! The average prom costs $919. That includes clothes, limo rental, tickets, flowers, pictures, dinner, after-party events, etc.,etc…
That's a lot of $$$! Good news kids….(bad news parents) parents plan to pay 73% of prom costs. That's up from 56% last year.
But, that's not all! The average “promposal”, or prom proposal, now costs $324
And it's different costs depending on what part of the country you live in.
Families, who live in the Northeast will spend an average of $738 on prom night and an average of $431 on a “promposal” for a total of $1169.
Families, who live in the West will spend an average of $596 on prom night and $342 on a “promposal” for a total of $937.
Families, who live in the South will spend an average of $544 on prom night and $305 on a “promposal” for a total of $849.
GOOD NEWS! Families, who live in the Midwest will spend an average of $515 on prom night and $218 on a “promposal” for a total of $733.
And low income families will spend $600 more on prom than wealthier ones.
So start saving for the prom….then college…then a family….
