Bettor Cashes In On Opening Superbowl Mistake
One of my favorite things about living in Las Vegas for so many years was sports betting, and the Superbowl was the Grand Daddy! They would always have some of the strangest bets you could make. My favorites were the coin toss (heads or tails). Attendance (odd or even), will there be an overtime (yes or no) and will there be a safety in the game. I would always bet all four plus more. Nothing like losing your money before the game even starts. (heads won this time)
But to bet that the opening score would be a safety? That’s almost crazy!
Jona Rechnitz bet $1000 on the 50 to 1 long shot and it paid off. Thanks to Tom Brady and his intentional grounding call. The winning ticket is worth $50,000 (plus the $1000 bet back).
I would almost bet that next year the payoff will be 30 to 1. Wow! I just made my first 2013 Superbowl bet.
